Wills, Tax and Planning for Life

We can help you with Wills, tax and planning for life.

It doesn’t matter what your age, if you are over 18 years old, you could and should make a Will. By making a Will, you decide what happens after you die, such as:

  • The kind of funeral or ceremony you have
  • Who will look after your children or your pets
  • How your belongings and assets are distributed between those you want to benefit from them

It is estimated that 60% of people in England and Wales die without a Will, which can cause uncertainty, complications, and expenses for their loved ones.

When making a Will, you plan for the future of your family or your favourite cause.

Tax planning, which is part of making a Will, ensures that you – within the terms of tax legislation – leave your estate to your family or loved ones in the most tax efficient manner possible.

This sort of planning could be as simple as making gifts during your lifetime, or as complex as the creation of trusts and settlements. We work with you to decide on the best actions depending upon your circumstances.  We can advise you about all the current exemptions and reliefs that are available, and can explain what needs to be done if you have foreign assets or foreign domicile.

You will find more information here about why you should make a Will and what information your Will should contain.

Wills, Tax and Planning for Life. How Quercus Solicitors can help you make a Will and help with estate planning.

How we work with you

If you would like to proceed to make Wills with us, we will send you our terms and conditions of business with a brief questionnaire to take details from you. We will also need to obtain a copy of your identification and proof of your address.

When we have this information, we will:

  • Send you an invoice for fifty percent of the agreed cost and request payment;
  • Arrange a meeting with you to take full instructions and explain how the Wills operate, provide you with the appropriate tax advice and discuss the work that we will carry out to assist you in their creation.

Following this, we will:

  • Prepare the Will or Wills for your approval; and
  • Create final documents for signature and assist you with the signing provisions.

Finally:

  • We will provide you with the final signed document(s) for you to retain.  We can also provide storage if necessary.  Copies of the documents can also be provided to you.

Our Charges

The cost of a single Will – where little tax planning advice is required – is £450.
